The Staub family celebrates Olli's third birthday with a theme party
On Monday, June 1, 2026, Oliver Staub turned three years old – a birthday that had to be celebrated big in the Staub household. The family organized an outdoor party last Sunday with around 40 friends and family members, singing performances, cake and tacos – all under the motto of the superhero children's series “Tayo: The Little Bus”, which Olli loves. “He really enjoyed it and was in a good mood”says Olli's father Stefan Staub enthusiastically in the RTL interview.

However, pictures of Oliver before his serious accident, which the family hung up to celebrate the day, were reminiscent of other times: “Of course it still hurts to see that he can't run with the kids,” admits his father. Of course, people wondered how Oliver would have celebrated his birthday without this serious blow of fate.
But amidst the melancholy, gratitude for Olli's life and his incredible strength prevails. “We don't stand in front of his grave on his birthday, but I have him in my arms and can caress him, that's the biggest win“, explains Stefan Staub.

For Olli's third birthday, the family spared no effort and organized a big themed party.

It was the first time Olli was able to properly celebrate his birthday after his first fell into the water in Germany and his second was spent in hospital. Because Olli's injuries after the car accident were too severe to transport him back to Europe. According to Olli’s father, the guests agreed on his third birthday: “It's only one stage, Olli will make it out of there!“

New hope after investigations! “Huge relief” for the Staub family
New examinations at the CRIT rehabilitation center revealed that Olli's injuries are anchored further down the spine than originally thought. “The further down the injury, the better,” explains Olli’s father – news that is a “huge relief” for the family!
“The more basic functions can come back: just eating, breathing, swallowing and peeing could be much more likely,” reveals Stefan Staub. There is still “a long way to go” ahead of them, but they do “Olli is super ambitious and always wants to keep practicing” said his father.

Olli can participate more and more in his family's life
But there is even more good news: Olli has a new, specially adapted wheelchair that allows him more mobility and participation in life. A ramp installed in the car is a “game changer,” as the father reports. This eliminates the need to carry the boy and makes it easier for Olli to take part in family outings, such as the brothers' football.

Oliver Staub (3) is now much more mobile with his new wheelchair and can participate more in family life.

Although the process of weaning ourselves off the ventilator still takes time, progress is being made even here: “New oxygen cylinders are only delivered every two weeks“, not three times a week like in the beginning,” reveals Stefan Staub enthusiastically.
The planned stem cell therapy in Chicago, which is now scheduled to start in July or August, also holds hope for further progress! In order to provide Oliver with the best possible care and therapy, the family asks Staub with one Gofundme fundraising campaign for support.
