Before the trial began, a spectator was asked at security checkpoints to remove her necklace with a Star of David pendant that she was wearing openly. The request came from an employee of the so-called Mobile Task Force (MEG) of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court, which supports courts in the state in special security situations.

Judicial orders should prevent provocations
The measure was based on an order from the responsible judge. Accordingly, items that are likely to “impair security and order in the meeting room” by demonstratively displaying posters, banners or printed clothing should be prohibited.
However, according to the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court and the Flensburg Regional Court, there was a lack of clarity in communication when implementing these requirements. “In fact, the order was not intended to prohibit the discreet wearing of small pieces of jewelry in the form of religious symbols.”says a joint press release from the court presidents.

The employees involved regretted the misunderstanding and the resulting oversight. The security measures served to protect everyone involved in the proceedings and spectators. The aim was to prevent possible provocations, disruptions or arguments.
The presidents of the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court and the Flensburg Regional Court announced that they would look into the incident. In the future, comparable security arrangements should be handled with the necessary differentiation and sensitivity.

Court sentences 60-year-old
The Flensburg district court sentenced the 60-year-old operator of a junk shop to a suspended prison sentence of six months because of the anti-Semitic poster.
The court was convinced that the man had posted a sign in his shop for several hours on September 17, 2025, which read, among other things: “Jews are banned from entering here!!!”. He also has to pay 1,200 euros to the Ladelund concentration camp memorial as a condition of his probation. The verdict is not yet final. Both the defendant and the public prosecutor can file an appeal within a week.
