Fulda – Fulda University of Applied Sciences has received an award for its communication campaign “Krautfunding” in the nationwide “Deutschlandstipendium Stories” competition run by the Donors’ Association for German Science. Ilona Jehn from the university accepted the honor at the annual Forum Deutschlandstipendium network meeting at the University of Stuttgart.

Creative campaign: Fulda University wins with “Krautfunding”

The campaign follows an unconventional and deliberately low-threshold concept: packets of herbal seeds symbolize growth, development and the promotion of young talent. The campaign was supplemented by flyers, personal discussions at regional events and a crowdfunding campaign via the “Partner of the Region” platform.

These measures offered citizens, companies and supporters from the region an easy opportunity to get directly involved with students at Fulda University. Sabrina Dörr, speaker for the Germany Scholarship at Fulda University, explains: “With 'Krautfunding' we wanted to show that even small contributions can have a big impact together.”

“The award confirms that creative and personal approaches can motivate people to take responsibility for education and talent development,” adds Sabrina Dörr. The campaign is already showing concrete success: “An additional Deutschlandstipendium is being financed through crowdfunding.”

“At the same time, the campaign increased the visibility of the Deutschlandstipendium in the region and brought new supporters into contact with Fulda University,” adds the Fulda speaker. The competition jury particularly praised the successful combination of analog and digital communication measures.

The possibility of adapting the concept at other universities was also positively highlighted. Fulda University plans to further develop the campaign and on the Hesse day to present in Fulda. “Krautfunding” is intended to serve as an example of how regional networks, creative ideas and social commitment can work together to promote young talent.

By expanding the network of committed sponsors, the university would like to enable additional scholarships in the long term and further strengthen the regional anchoring of the Deutschlandstipendium. The Deutschlandstipendium has existed since the summer semester of 2011 – 300 euros per month, half financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the other half by private donors.

It honors outstanding achievements at school and studies as well as special social commitment. Social, personal and family circumstances also factor into the annual selection. According to the Fulda University, the scholarship has developed positively over the past 15 years.

According to further information, over 33,000 students are currently being supported at around 300 universities nationwide. The Germany Scholarship has been offered at Fulda University for 14 years. Thanks to 45 sponsors, 335 scholarships have already been awarded. There was also recently a herb funding campaign for the Bad Sodener Wildpark.
