2069 children in the Fulda district were tested for physical activity during physical activity checks. The best 24 have now been honored. One girl even set a new record in the six-minute run.

Fulda – 2069 children took part in this year's physical activity check for the second grades of primary schools in the city and district of Fulda. The 24 best-placed girls and boys were now ceremoniously honored. They all achieved outstanding sporting achievements, the Fulda district reported in a press release.

Excited faces at the award ceremony in the clubhouse of the Eichenzell shooting community: Twelve girls and twelve boys as well as their parents waited eagerly for the names of all the best placed to be read out. “For every one of you, there are almost 100 children who were not as good as you,” praised first district councilor and head of the sports department Frederik Schmitt.

“You can all give yourselves a big pat on the back for that – you can be really proud of yourself!” Prof. Dr. Andreas Hohmann, who carried out the check together with sports scientist Dr. Maximilian Siener, who led the event, emphasized that the children in the district and the city as a whole were very well placed in terms of motor skills.

Regionally, he highlighted the communities of Eiterfeld, Großenlüder, Hilders, Neuhof and Flieden, where an accumulation of high-achieving children was noticeable. There were also some best performances this year. A girl achieved the best result ever achieved by a child in a movement test in the six-minute endurance run of 1,300 meters.

Even 800 meters is a very good result. Among the boys, one child was particularly impressive in his ball throw with a distance of 30 meters. “The best ones usually manage twelve to 15 meters, so that’s something special,” said Dr. Siener. In addition to the praise for the children's great achievements, the well-wishers also thanked the parents.

“You play an important role in your children’s sporting success by supporting them and registering them in sports clubs,” said the head of the sports department. The movement check has been taking place annually in the city and district of Fulda since 2010. Financially supported by Sparkasse Fulda and vivida bkk, it tests the motor skills of second-graders in eleven disciplines and provides conclusions about special sporting talents.

The best-placed children in 2026 were:

Girls: 1st place: Alma Scheich, 2nd place: Louane Valentina Heil, 3rd place: Charlotte Schmeisl, 4th place: Janika Maier, 5th place: Pauline Schöppner, 6th place: Mila Roth, 7th -12th. Place (unsorted): Elise Martella, Caline Martens, Lara Aschenbrenner, Lotta Dagmar Roth, Nele Samira Wienold, Elisa Arguimbau Febrer.

Boys: 1st place: Leon Grösch, 2nd place: Samuel Elijah Kraus, 3rd place: Arseniy Peters, 4th place: Walid Alhussein, 5th place: Travis Talla Riediger, 6th place: Elias Brenneis, 7th -12th. Place (unsorted): Michel Krieger, John Parson, Thore Bernhard Adelbert Werner, Joel Tiago Inácio, Moritz Landeck

At the same time, it also covers the individual support needs of children with slightly weaker motor skills. After completing the check, each child tested receives a recommendation for five different sports that are particularly suitable based on the performance shown.

The test results are also valuable for those responsible for politics, as they provide clues as to where there is still a need for improvement in the area of promoting physical activity, for example in playgrounds and sports facilities, emphasized Prof. Hohmann. In the 16 years of the physical activity check, almost 32,000 children have been tested so far.

After the award ceremony, another highlight awaited the children. The 13-year-old showed her archery skills during a trial training session with Charlotte Schwab from SG Eichenzell. As a member of the state squad, she is one of the best archers in her age group in Hesse. Visibly enthusiastic about her unusual sport, she showed the children her equipment and gave insights into the training.

“What I like best about archery is the great togetherness. Even during competitions, everyone supports each other and is friendly to each other.” She advises all parents to support their children in finding a sport that really suits them.

She was introduced to archery through friends. Charlotte also took part in the movement check at the time. “This sport wasn’t actually on her certificate at the time,” remembers her mother Jasmin. “The recommendation was in the direction of athletics, table tennis or football.”
