The Brothers Grimm Run has been inspiring runners for 40 years. Exciting stages and a unique atmosphere await participants.

Steinau an der Straße – The Brothers Grimm Run is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and will attract more participants than it has for a long time. Around 540 runners have registered for the five stages. In addition, up to 100 other people are planning to only complete individual sections of the route.

The Main-Kinzig district reported this in a press release about the run in Kinzigtal. All participants can rely on excellent organization, as the tried and tested event community is also there with a large contingent of around 500 volunteers.

Brothers Grimm Run: Unique stages through the Kinzig Valley

In addition to the team from the sports department of the Main-Kinzig district, there are the association for the promotion of the Brothers Grimm Run, 1st Hanauer Running Club, Hanau-Bruchköbel Running Club, TV Oberrodenbach, TG Neuenhaßlau, VfR Meerholz, Freigericht Running Club, Gelnhausen Running Club, Gelnhausen Running Team, TV Wartensbach, TV Bad Orb, TV Salmünster and Steinau Running Club.

“Without the many volunteers and sponsors, an event of this kind would not be possible,” says District Administrator and Head of Sports Thorsten Stolz, emphasizing the importance of the helpers. A stage run is a particular challenge, especially because of the route and all the logistics.

The stage run represents “a tough test” due to the route and logistics and has been almost unique in Germany for 40 years. It also offers excellent advertising for the Main-Kinzig region and the home of the famous fairy tale collectors. On June 14th, Stolz is looking forward to awarding the winners in Steinau.

Since the start in 1984, the stages have been named after well-known fairy tales. The run begins on Friday, June 12th with the Little Red Riding Hood stage over 15.2 flat, asphalted kilometers to the Bulauhalle in Niederrodenbach. The Sleeping Beauty stage follows on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., which leads 14.7 kilometers over partly asphalted forest and farm paths.

The longest section ends in Steinau in front of the town hall

This route is challenging as it climbs 60 meters from Oberrodenbach to 600 meters and leads to Käfernberg before ending at the Neuenhaßlau bus station. The Snow White stage starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Hasselbachschule and leads over 16.3 hilly kilometers to the stadium on Freigerichter Straße in Gelnhausen.

The popular pasta party will take place in the Barbarossa city at 7 p.m. to strengthen the runners for the two stages on Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, breakfast is organized for up to 100 people, and massages help to relax strained muscles.

The Frau Holle stage begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. It runs about 16 kilometers through the Gelnhäuser and Büdinger Forest to the sports hall at the comprehensive school inwachtersbach. The 800 meter long climb to the “Four Spruces” is particularly challenging. The Hansel and Gretel stage starts at 3:30 p.m. in Bad Orber Burgringstrasse.

“Biggest fan”: Uli Amborn is about to take part for the 34th time

At 17.6 kilometers, it is the longest section of the run and ends in Steinau in front of the town hall, Am Kumpen. Among the many participants, Uli Amborn, the winner from 1993, stands out. He has registered for the 34th time and is thus approaching the record of “endurance runner” Kalli Flach from Rodenbach, who took part 35 times. Uli

Amborn has hardly missed an event since his victory in 1993 and always praises “the good atmosphere and the excellent organization that has been going on for years.” Despite his experience, he describes the run through Kinzigtal and Spessart as “a tough test”. The start of the fourth stage on Sunday morning was particularly difficult for him, but after a few kilometers he found his rhythm.

The communal atmosphere, the good support and the cooling off in the Steinau fairytale fountain motivate him even more. Constanze Friedrich from the Gelnhausen running team has registered for the 20th time and maintains a close connection to the Brothers Grimm Run.

Björn Kuttich, who won the overall ranking in 2015, is also a prominent participant. Thomas Wagner can boast a special achievement: He is the only runner from the 1984 starting field who will be competing again in the 40th edition. At the premiere he wore starting number 1 and came second in the junior ranking behind Gerald Helfrich from Gründau.
