Stadtwerke Hünfeld focuses on resource conservation. The indoor pool water is used for irrigation. An environmentally friendly contribution to saving water.
Hünfeld – Every day the construction yard takes around 12,000 liters of water from the swimming pool, as Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok (CDU), the chairman of the supervisory board of the Hünfeld municipal utility, and the managing director of the municipal utility, Manuel Gollbach, report. As in 2025, the water from the indoor swimming pool in Hünfeld will be used again to irrigate the green areas.
Sustainable: Indoor pool water from Hünfeld is used for watering
Philipp Adams from Stadtwerke explains: “The bathing water was previously tested for the appropriate parameters, so that it is harmless to use as irrigation water for nature.” He adds: “There are also no restrictions regarding the chlorine content; the barely measurable chlorine residues evaporate after just a few days.”
Maximilian Rehberg, the department head for technology and network operations at the municipal utility, emphasizes that the Hünfeld utility company wants to contribute to resource conservation with this measure: “Even if no bottlenecks in water levels are currently expected, responsible use of the water resource is important.”
According to Rehberg, the municipal utilities want to be a role model and encourage people to save water in their own gardens and homes through conscious use. The Haselgrund outdoor swimming pool in Hünfeld has been open again since May 10th, as is the Eiterfeld swimming pool. The Gotthard outdoor pool started its season on May 16th.
