Istergiesel – Even before the ribbon was cut, the children had already conquered the new playground and extensively tested all the climbing and swing options. At the official opening, the verdict from children and adults was unanimous: the long wait was worth it, the new place offers great opportunities – and the tried and tested table tennis table should also return shortly.
Fulda is investing 125,000 euros in a new playground in Istergiesel
The facility is idyllically located in the shade of old trees between the bakery, bus stop and fire station and, according to the city, cost around 125,000 euros. As Mayor Dag Wehner, city planning officer Daniel Schreiner and mayor Wolfgang Bilz explained at the small ceremony, the initial considerations and plans for the “Renewal of the Istergiesel children's playground” project go back to the years 2022/23. The initial starting point was the question of how the play equipment and fall protection, some of which date back to the 1960s, could be brought up to date.
As part of the planning, it was then decided to completely revise the site. In the first construction phase, at the end of last year, the sewage pipe coming from the community center was partially renovated and a new house connection was created in collaboration with the sewage association. “A large part of the total costs of around 125,000 euros for the project cannot be seen today because the work took place underground at the end of last year,” said city planning officer Schreiner. “But we were also able to achieve some improvements with regard to protection against heavy rain events.” As Schreiner further announced, his special thanks went to the Istergiesel local council for their constructive support, the municipal committees, the specialist administration and the companies involved.
The actual work on the playground then proceeded quickly: from March to April the old place was dismantled and the new facility was built. The gardening and landscaping company Dirk Bartelt from Petersberg-Marbach was commissioned. The result is a play tower with a slide, climbing wall, climbing and sliding pole, climbing net and ramp with a rope. For younger children there is now a sand play area with a sand play house and balancing or seating beams. There is also a sand excavator, a spring rocker and a double swing with a toddler swing seat and a rubber board swing seat.
Parents and grandparents have also been taken into consideration: a wheelchair-accessible table/bench combination is available for them. According to those involved, the area has the potential to become a real “generational meeting place” in the district.
For Mayor Wehner, the new playground is also a visible sign of the city's investment policy. As he emphasized, Fulda is not only investing in the city center, but is also constantly creating conditions in the 24 districts so that families in particular can feel comfortable there.
