Anyone flying to Mallorca with Ryanair may soon have to change. The airline is changing several processes – and for many holidaymakers things are suddenly becoming much more crowded at Palma Airport.
Ryanair is changing its baggage rules: suitcases must be checked in earlier at Mallorca Airport
Anyone who previously thought that 40 minutes before departure was easily enough to check in their luggage needs to change their plans. As Mallorca Magazine reports, citing a Ryanair announcement, from November 10, 2026, Ryanair will require passengers with checked baggage to check in and hand in their suitcase at least 60 minutes before takeoff. Previously this deadline was 40 minutes.

The airline justifies the move by wanting to give travelers more buffer for security and passport controls. At the same time, the number of passengers who miss their flights due to long queues should continue to decrease.

Ryanair relies on self-service baggage check-in: kiosks are being massively expanded
At the same time, Ryanair is continuing to expand self-handling for suitcases, which is already an established procedure at Mallorca Airport. The so-called self-service baggage drop-off machines should be available across almost the entire route network by the end of 2026. According to its own information, the airline wants to have equipped more than 95 percent of the airports it serves by October.

Ryanair considers the model a success because it will make baggage drop-off faster and the waiting time should be reduced.
Palma Airport and Ryanair: This change does not affect all travelers
It is important that the innovations do not affect every passenger. Anyone traveling with only hand or cabin luggage should still be able to check in online in advance and then go directly to security check and gate at the airport.
The stricter deadline only applies to travelers who check in luggage. It is precisely for this group that the Ryanair baggage rules will be noticeably stricter in 2026 from November. (jka)
