The Royals' focus is on others!
But the Royal Family is big and now someone is coming out of the shadows who, having just turned 18, is already being considered the new “most desirable bachelor in Britain”. May we introduce: James Mountbatten-Windsor.

His parents kept James Mountbatten-Windsor out of the public eye

James Mountbatten-Windsor (18) is the son of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophiethe youngest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth and is 16th in line to the British throne. James celebrated his 18th birthday on December 17, 2025 and is considered a “hidden member of the royal family,” according to the Daily Mail.

The reason: According to the report, it was important to his parents to let James and his sister Louise (22) grow up “normally”. After their 18th birthday, the two should decide for themselves whether they want to bear the title “Royal Highness” or not. Louise decided against it a few years ago and James hasn't accepted the title either.

Harry's successor? James Mountbatten-Windsor is “Britain’s most eligible bachelor”

Despite few official appearances so far – including his grandmother's platinum jubilee celebrations, her state funeral and Prince Philip's memorial service in Scotland – Daily Mail James Mountbatten-Windsor is already acting as “Britain’s most eligible bachelor” – once Prince Harry's unofficial title. But what is known about the Royals’ “newcomer”?

Reading tip: Prince Harry sued for defamation

James' childhood was completely different than that of other members of the Royal Family, writes Daily Mail. Instead of appearances on red carpets, there were fishing trips and overnight parties. Duchess Sophie is said to have once said about her children in an interview: “They spend the night with friends and go to parties. On the weekends we walk the dog a lot and visit friends.” Even though James Mountbatten-Windsor has so far been in the shadow of the Royal Family, he spent a lot of time with his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, at Windsor Castle.

James is currently attending the renowned Radley College in Oxfordshirea boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18. What happens next? At the moment we can only speculate as to whether the 18-year-old will decide to study at the University of St. Andrews, where Prince William also studied, or whether James will pursue a completely different career. The Daily Mail's royal expert, Richard Eden, is certain that James and Louise could make an important contribution to the royal family. “What better way to build on the strengths (of the monarchy, editor's note) than with the energy of young people who have been taught values such as an orientation towards the common good and a sense of duty from birth?” the author is quoted as saying.
