On White Sunday, children receive their first communion and consciously enter into the church's meal community – an important step in their faith.
Poppenhausen – On White Sunday, the first Sunday after Easter, children celebrate their first communion in many places – like in Poppenhausen, where the photo for our article was taken. 18 children received Holy Communion – the “Bread of Life” – and thus the Body of Christ for the first time. Numerous families celebrated today in the region.
First Communion on White Sunday: A big step in faith
With this step, the children consciously take part in the church's meal community founded by Jesus Christ, as the diocese explains. The ceremonial first communion is considered both a renewal of baptism and a conscious integration into the church community. It is one of the initiation sacraments of the Catholic Church.
By the way: The name “White Sunday” goes back to the early church: newly baptized people wore white robes when they were accepted into the community as a sign of their new life in faith.
Before children receive communion on White Sunday, Volunteers invest a lot of time and passion, like Katrin Hohmann-Vierheil.
