Three Protestant communities defied the weather and celebrated the Ascension Day together on the Brillenzell sports field with 120 believers.

glass cell – Around 120 believers celebrated a service together on Ascension Day at the Brillenzell sports field. The Protestant congregations of the Kreuzkirche, Christuskirche and Versöhnungskirche-Matthäuskirche were not deterred by cool temperatures and changeable weather – even if the Ice Saints made last-minute changes to plans, as the Kreuzkirche reports.

Instead of on the lawn, the participants gathered on the terrace at the sports field under protection from the rain. Twelve children took part in the children's service, which was moved to the clubhouse. And as if the sky had seen it, the sun even appeared at times.

Pastor Tina Oehm-Ludwig preached on John 17:20-26 and focused on Jesus' request: “That they may all be one.” Ascension is not just a farewell, but also a commission to the disciples then and now: “Be well!” What this means is a coexistence that is characterized by respect, community and cohesion. Unity arises where people talk to each other, treat each other with respect and tolerate differences.

The preacher linked this idea to celebrating together: Community can grow especially where people come together, celebrate church services together, eat, talk and laugh. The message is particularly suitable for this Ascension Day, which showed that Christian community does not depend on perfect external conditions.

Special farewell for Vicar Johannes Trepte

The family-friendly bike tour had to be canceled this year. Pastor Stefan Bürger had canceled it in advance because of the weather: “Of course it's always a question of wardrobe, but when the weather was below 10 degrees and there was an open-air church service afterwards, a bike tour didn't feel so nice.”

For Vicar Johannes Trepte, the service he helped organize was also a special farewell. At Pentecost he was ordained as a pastor and took up his pastorate in Bieberstein-Dipperz from June 1st.

As every year, the “Esprit” group provided musical accompaniment to the service. Among other things, she sang the new Hessentag song together with the community. Afterwards, the guests met on the terrace and in the sports hall of SV Brillezell. The holiday ended comfortably with Flurgönder, grilled food, coffee and cake. The parishioners warmly thanked the association for their hospitality.
