Snake hair cucumbers, purple tomatoes, curry herb: a new Indian garden has been created at Antonius – as an inclusive, intercultural and health-promoting learning and meeting place.

Fulda – These days the project was officially opened in antonius' nursery – despite the icy wind, numerous interested people came, as antonius reports.

The garden was created through the collaboration of very different groups: According to Antonius, the Indian sisters of the order “Servants of the Poor”, employees from the gardening and kitchen, health promotion, international volunteers from the WeltRaum Frauenberg project and senior citizens who live with Antonius were involved. Project manager Janina Goldbach summed up the result at the opening and spoke of an “inclusive, intercultural and health-promoting learning and meeting place”. She thanked everyone involved who will continue to look after the garden in the future.

The new garden offers a colorful variety of crops: in addition to snake-hair cucumbers, purple Indian tomatoes, curry herbs and ginger grow there. First of all, the focus is on trying things out. It's about testing what thrives under the given conditions, says Goldbach. Seeds for the coming year are to be obtained from the most promising varieties. “Who knows what we’ll end up serving up,” she said, referring to possible later dishes.

The project will be accompanied by a range of workshops on cooking, health and meditation. The garden should not only be a growing area, but also a place for learning and a place for encounters.

After a spiritual impulse from Franciscan Father Thomas, pastor at Antonius, the new place of “growth and prosperity” was blessed. At the end of the celebrations, guests warmed themselves with a cup of Indian tea and sampled sweet and savory pastries freshly prepared by the Indian sisters.

Most recently he had traditional pasture drive at the Antonius farm attracted numerous interested parties.
