Two cars collided head-on near Grebenau. A 64-year-old driver was flown to hospital by helicopter.
Grebenau – Update from May 14th, at 5:37 p.m.: According to initial findings, the 38-year-old who caused the accident was driving his car on the state road from Grebenau towards Udenhausen. Due to carelessness, he crossed into the oncoming lane at the end of a right-hand bend and collided with an oncoming vehicle. The 38-year-old's vehicle came to a stop in the right-hand ditch and the oncoming vehicle crashed into the guard rail there.
The 64-year-old driver from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district had to be taken to a nearby hospital by rescue helicopter. The wife and passenger were also taken to hospital by ambulance. Both were responsive and suffered minor injuries.

The person who caused the accident was also slightly injured. His passenger, the same age, was apparently uninjured, but was taken to hospital for examination as a precaution. The road maintenance department was also notified due to leakage of operating materials.
Both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed away. The material damage amounts to at least 40,000 euros. The state road was completely closed while the accident was being recorded, but the road has now been cleared again.
First report from May 14th, at 5:11 p.m.: One person was seriously injured in a serious traffic accident on state road 3161 between Grebenau and the Udenhausen district on Thursday afternoon (May 14th) at around 2:55 p.m. Two cars collided head-on there.
As Christoph Schwarz, head of the Grebenau fire department, said, a report was initially received that a person was trapped. The situation on site was somewhat less dramatic: one person was trapped in their vehicle. The emergency services were able to free her by removing the driver's door. The other people involved in the accident were able to get out of their vehicles on their own.
One person was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. She had suffered more serious injuries. In addition to the helicopter, three ambulances and an emergency doctor were at the scene. The fire department was on site with 33 emergency services. The state road initially remained closed after consultation with the police.
There is currently no information about the cause of the accident or the amount of material damage caused.
Just the night before there was an accident: A VW Golf crashed into a fence and a bus stop in Grebenhain. Three teenagers were injured – one seriously. The driver fled on foot.
