“Our children and young people are in demand as experts in everyday life; their job is to find obstacles,” says District Administrator Dr. Jens Mischak and, together with Daniela Kraus and Hannah Müller, draw attention to the first inclusion competition in the Vogelsberg district.

In the new inclusion competition in the Vogelsberg district, young people are called upon to identify barriers in everyday life and develop creative solutions.

Vogelsbergkreis – The Vogelsbergkreis has launched an inclusion competition for the first time. Under the title “A world without obstacles”, children and young people between the ages of six and 17 from the Vogelsberg district are called upon to identify barriers in everyday life and develop creative solutions. “We want to know where people stumble and where they don’t feel understood,” announced Vogelsberg District Administrator Dr. Jens Mischak (CDU).

“Together we want to create a world in which no one is excluded,” explained Mischak together with Daniela Kraus and Hannah Müller from the Vogelsberg Youth Welfare Office. The idea for the competition came from the “Inclusion and Participation” working group in the district office.

From April 28th to June 6th, young people from the Vogelsberg district can submit their contributions. The competition sees itself as a platform to find out in which everyday situations children and young people feel disadvantaged or thwarted. “It's often the little things that can have a big impact – the lack of a ramp, for example, can be a huge problem or the language barrier, for example if a sign cannot be read,” said the district administrator.

The participants have a free hand in implementing their ideas. Possible options include texts, poems, short videos, photos of places that should be changed, painted images or digital presentations. “You don’t have to be a professional,” assured Kraus and Müller. “The variety of formats reflects the diversity of perspectives.”

Get creative together and initiate change

Individuals as well as groups – such as school classes, residential groups or clubs – can take part. Projects that are created together with people from different backgrounds and disabilities are particularly welcome.

In addition to the opportunity to inspire real change and the prospect of winnings, all submitted results will be presented publicly after the competition. For District Administrator Mischak, it's about more than just prizes: “It's about young people learning that their voice counts. Their ideas can make a difference.”

Anyone interested can find all the information and the required declaration of consent for minors on the website Freizeit-bildung.de. If you have any questions, please contact Daniela Kraus on mobile number (0151) 46757053 or by email daniela.kraus@vogelsbergkreis.de available. Deadline for entries is June 6th.

Inclusion is also important set for Hessentag at the Fulda Cup – the football tournament between Fulda schools and people with disabilities.
