Disappointment at Öko-TestYou shouldn't turn your back on these two hairsprays!

According to Öko-Test, most hairsprays are great – except for two.

A hairy result!
Many people don't want to do without hairspray when styling. However, this would obviously be appropriate for some products, as the current results from Öko-Test show. Why do two sprays fail so badly, and which ones get good grades?
This was important to Öko-Test in the hairspray test
Öko-Test tested 29 hairsprays from drugstores, discounters and supermarketspreferably those with medium or stronger hold. The main focus was on the ingredients: the focus was on problematic fragrances, microplastic compounds and other substances that could harm the skin and/or the environment. The prices ranged from a very reasonable 93 cents to over 16 euros per 250 milliliters. The result: The majority of the products tested are “good”, four are even “very good”, but two sprays completely smear.

Test loser: These sprays fail
Two well-known brands fail the test with “poor”: this L'Oréal Studio Line Traceless FX Styling Spray, Ultra Strong Hold, 8 (2.95 euros per 250 ml) and that Pantene Pro-V Perfect Volume Hairspray, hold level 5 (3.95 euros per 250 ml). The reason for the lousy rating: the ingredient galaxolide. According to Öko-Test, this artificial musk scent accumulates in the body, has already been detected in breast milk and is suspected of influencing the hormonal system. Even a possible classification as carcinogenic is currently being examined. It is also difficult to degrade and very toxic to aquatic organisms.
The problem for consumers: The substance has often not been visible on the packaging because it is hidden behind the collective term “perfume”. In the future, manufacturers will have to label it on products under the name hexamethylindanopyran, although a transition period still applies until July 2028.
Further points of criticism from the test team: PEG/PEG derivatives, which can make the skin more permeable to foreign substances, and plastic compounds in the formulation.

Organic hairsprays top the table
Natural cosmetics are not necessarily always ahead in Öko-Test, but this time the result is clear: out of four test winners, three have a corresponding label, for example this Alverde hairspray from dm (3.25 euros per 250 ml).
Although it doesn't have a certificate, it's from Rossmann's own natural cosmetics brand Alterra volume hairspray organic papaya (4.15 euros per 250 ml) and therefore the winner among the conventional products. The many “good” hairsprays include various inexpensive own brands, but also brand classics like this Taft volume hairspray, hold 3 from Henkel (3.45 euros per 250 ml).
