Fulda celebrates the music of the early Baroque. A master class and concerts let the Christ Church and the cathedral sound.

Fulda – This spring Fulda will become a center for early music for the first time. From April 30th to May 3rd, the Weckmann Consort, together with renowned lecturers, invites you to the first festival for early music. A place of musical encounter is being created around the Christ Church and the cathedral, which is dedicated to historical performance practice.

The focus of the festival is an intensive master class for singers and instrumentalists. This is accompanied by three public concerts in the Christ Church and the cathedral. The city of Fulda announced that short-term registrations for the workshop are still possible, but the number of participants is limited.

The festival is organized in collaboration with the city of Fulda, Dom Musik Fulda, the Christ Church, the KreisMusikSchule and the Fulda Music School. The lectures' concert “Collegium Musicum – Early Baroque as Present” in the Christ Church Fulda will kick off on April 30th at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at 15 euros fz-tickets.reservix.de available. This performance takes you into a world of sound where Italian and German musical traditions of the 17th century come together. The focus is on four composers who had a decisive influence on the cultural exchange between Italy and Germany: Francesco Cavalli, Sebastian Knüpfer, Daniel Selichius and Francesco Rognoni. The concert with the theme “4×4 Golden Jubilare” shows how the expressive sound language of the early Baroque developed from Renaissance polyphony.

The three-day workshop “Workshop for Plural Choirs, Diminution and Consort Culture” will take place from May 1st to 3rd, combining international expertise with the regional music scene. The lecturers include the internationally renowned baroque trombonist Wim Becu and the soprano Bettina Pahn. Together with the members of the Weckmann Consort, they convey central aspects of early Baroque music-making practice.

The collaboration with the Fulda district music school is particularly important. Juan González Martínez on the baroque trombone and Christine Vogel on the viola da gamba, both teachers in the early music department, also contribute their expertise. The course is aimed at advanced amateurs, students and professionals of the instruments vocal, brass, baroque trombone, violin, viola da gamba, recorder and dulcian. Registrations are still possible.

The festival concludes on May 3rd at 4 p.m. with the participants' concert “Fulda sounds multi-choral” in the Christ Church in Fulda. The workshop participants present the works developed in the course together with the lecturers. This is where the polyphonic church music of the early Baroque unfolds its full effect. Tickets are available online for 15 euros fz-tickets.reservix.de available.

At 10 a.m. on the same day, a musical service in Fulda Cathedral offers a foretaste of the final concert. Admission to this service is free. Meanwhile, the popular “Music in the Park” series begins on Whitsunday in Hünfeld. Five concerts with free admission await visitors.
