Does Ralf Möller regret voting for Trump?
He is one of the most famous Germans in the USA. And Ralf Möller has never made a secret of the fact that he voted for Donald Trump. But now the Gladiator star is rowing back. Suddenly he is keeping his fingers crossed for the US Democrats and hopes that they will win in the next elections. Why is that?

Why Ralf Möller is turning away from Donald Trump

When asked whether he still sees Trump the same way he did before, Möller first says: He didn't “support” him, but at the time he simply saw “nothing else” than to vote for him – the alternative on the other side convinced him even less. In typical Möller style, he explains this with a comparison to Germany: If you asked people “Annalena Baerbock or Friedrich Merz?”, many would also tick Merz.

Trump governed “very well, relatively well” in the first four years; the later, sometimes “confused” decisions could not have been predicted, says Möller. Many others have predicted exactly this.

But one thing is clear: Trump's new self-portrayal as a Jesus figure goes too far for the 65-year-old. The AI image in which the US President poses side by side with Jesus is causing strong criticism in the USA – and Ralf Möller also finds clear words for it. “Well, bad, of course. Of course you can't do that,” he says. After all: Trump quickly took the post down again.

Of course, the Gladiator doesn't miss the fact that Möller's good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger, of all people, is once again sharply attacking the US President in public: “Arnold is really pushing hard against it,” he says with a grin – but adds that in the end it doesn't change much: “It's no use. He's the president after all.”

Möller is therefore hopeful for the next elections in the USA. He hopes that the Democrats will take back the lower house and that Trump will be limited: Then he will no longer be able to rule as completely as he would like. Ralf Möller leaves it open whether this ultimately means a final break with his old friend – or just a cautious distancing. (ros)
