The reason for the intervention was that the driver was heavily intoxicated. “A breath alcohol test showed a value of 2.41 per mille. The starting point for police intervention was a message from a passenger who had previously smelled alcohol on him,” reported police spokesman Thomas Leipold.

A police patrol discovered the drunk bus driver shortly afterwards at the main train station. This not only led to the end of his shift, but also to a blood draw at the station. A criminal case was initiated on suspicion of drunk driving. He could also face employment law consequences.

To a Meanwhile, a sensational accident with a bus occurred in Fulda-Niesig at the beginning of the year. A bus crashed into a house. The driver was treated in hospital. A medical emergency suffered by the driver was the main reason the bus left the road, his employer later said.
