Schlüchtern – A car with a British license plate that was reported as suspicious has turned out to be a support vehicle for a racing cyclist's record attempt.
On Wednesday morning, June 10th, according to the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters, the control center received a tip-off from a road user shortly after 8 a.m. The witness reported a vehicle driving very slowly on state road 3329 between Niederzell and Schlüchtern. According to the police, a patrol then set out and found the reported vehicle a short time later on state road 3292 in the direction of Distelrasen. The initially unclear background quickly became clear on site: the car served as a support vehicle for an ambitious racing cyclist.
In the course of further clarification, it emerged that the athlete is currently completing an unusual long-distance journey. According to police, their goal is to cover the distance from the southernmost to the northernmost point of Europe in record time.
Record attempt
The racing cyclist is Dr. Sarah Ruggins. She is currently trying to cycle the approximately 6,000 kilometers from Tarifa in Spain to the North Cape in Norway – and set a new world record in the process. On Wednesday morning – the fifth day of their trip – their path apparently led through the Kinzig Valley. She takes her followers with her on Instagram.
By the way: In 2023, a Kinzigtaler also covered almost the identical route on a racing bike – however, he started at the North Cape and arrived in Gibraltar after 25 days.
The police reported that there were no indications of criminal or disorderly conduct during the check. No further measures were therefore necessary and the patrol operation was ended – while the record hunter's journey is expected to continue for some time.
