Suddenly everything is on fire.
Early on Wednesday morning (June 3rd) a fire broke out at a campsite in Niederkrüchten-Brempt (Viersen district). The flames engulf several caravans, cabins and annexes. Three people are injured and thick smoke stretches for kilometers across the region.
Fire spreads explosively
When the first emergency services were alerted to a burning tree at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, they were confronted with a dramatic picture: Several caravans at the campsite on Kahrstrasse are already on fire. The fire also spread to other buildings and huts on the site. According to the fire department, ten caravans, a car and small buildings were seriously damaged. At times an area of around 50 by 50 meters is affected.

A huge column of smoke rises above the campsite. The smoke is so strong that residents in Niederkrüchten, Elmpt and parts of Schwalmtal are being warned. Windows and doors should remain closed as a precaution.
Fire brigade brings fire under control
Three people are slightly injured. According to the fire department, one person suffered smoke poisoning. Numerous firefighters battled the flames for hours. According to the information, almost 70 emergency services were on site, including emergency services. The police cordoned off a large area of Kahrstrasse during the operation.

The emergency services finally managed to bring the fire under control. The warning due to the odor nuisance can also be lifted around 6:30 a.m. Re-extinguishing work is currently underway. It remains unclear why the fire broke out. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. (nha)
