“This last story was completely complete!”
For actor Patrick Fernandez, this decision by the GZSZ authors of UFA Serial Drama came as a complete surprise. “I never thought Carlos would be killed. That was the most shocking thing”he says looking back. At the same time, the actor looks back on his final scenes with great gratitude. It was particularly important to him that his character had a strong and emotional story to say goodbye. “This last story was completely rounded. For us actors it's a gift because you can play it with complete conviction and show all facets.”
Carlos has recently come under increasing pressure in the series, is suspected of being a murderer and increasingly loses himself in the search for the perpetrator of his late wife Zoe. For Fernandez, these scenes were among the most intense of his entire time at GZSZ. “Playing the desperation of wanting to find his wife’s murderer gave me an incredible amount.”
After the shocking murder of Carlos (Patrick Fernandez), Toni (Olivia Marei) and Holger Schmitt (Timo Hastenpflug, right) are faced with a dark mystery: Suddenly they have to investigate two deaths.

At the same time, the story increasingly developed into an emotional thriller in which various characters come under suspicion. Who shot Zoe and now who killed Carlos? Serial crime or coincidence?
The final showdown was filmed in a self-storage center in Potsdam. Despite all the emotionality and the pain of saying goodbye, the shoot was initially surprisingly easy for him. For this reason, he says, “I felt more honored and happy that my story as Carlos ended the way it began.” It was particularly emotional for him because of his close connection to the team. “It's not easy to leave a family like that. I really hold this entire team very close to my heart.”

Fernandez also particularly fondly remembers individual scenes. Above all, he remembers an elaborately prepared action sequence during an outdoor shoot with Jan Kittmann. At the same time, he describes the emotional scenes surrounding Zoe's death and the visit to the grave as particularly intense. “It was hard and beautiful at the same time.”
After three and a half years, Patrick Fernandez leaves the series full of gratitude – and with many memories. The Berliner with Mexican roots was seen for the first time in episode 7636 on November 7, 2022.
