Fulda clinic and city celebrate successes. The campus has become a fixture in medical education. Now the new students have been welcomed.

Fulda – Fulda Hospital and the city of Fulda have a brilliant track record: With 169 prospective doctors, the campus has developed into a permanent fixture in the cooperation with the University of Marburg since its launch in 2014. The Fulda hospital reported this in a press release.

The chairman of the supervisory board and mayor of the city of Fulda as well as the board of the Fulda Clinic welcomed the new students at a kick-off event at the start of the semester and were very satisfied with the developments so far.

“The Fulda campus of Marburg University Medical Center is consolidating its reputation as an attractive and high-performance location for the academic training of aspiring physicians,” it read. Dr. Thomas Menzel, spokesman for the hospital board, also emphasized the high quality of teaching on behalf of his board colleague Michael Wilhelm.

Just recently, 19 students completed the written part of the second section of the medical examination (M2). Looking back at the past years, Menzel was confident: “The students on the campus have achieved impressive results in recent years. This shows that we are preparing them well for their exams and their future careers.”

Menzel continues: “Together with the students and with support from politics, we will further develop the study location.” Mayor and Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dr. Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU) welcomed the aspiring doctors to the region and emphasized the special dynamism of the location.

Due to the close integration of the city, region and clinic, Fulda offers advantages that go beyond the purely technical: “At the Fulda campus you are still pioneers in a young, dynamic model. We do not have rigid, centuries-old structures, but offer space for design and personal support.”

“Your feedback is the fuel to further develop this new territory together. Fulda has changed – we are proud that you have chosen our city as a place to live and learn,” said the mayor of Fulda. Prof. Dr. Achim Hellinger, chairman of the study commission, emphasized the importance of dialogue between teachers and students.

The high quality of the evaluations at the location in particular contributes to the constant optimization of teaching. “Medicine is based on communication – this applies to the relationship with patients as well as to teaching. Our aim is to continually improve training through continuous feedback and innovative projects. We want to shape your mindset: studying is just the beginning of a lifelong learning process.”

The event ended with a group photo on the terrace of the clinic. An exciting phase now begins for the students, which will take them through the further clinical semesters up to the practical year – accompanied by a dedicated team of doctors and tutors directly on site.

Since October 2025, students have also been able to take the second part of the medical state examination (M2) in Fulda. Hesse's Health Minister Diana Stolz (CDU) described this innovation as an “important step in the expansion of the Fulda campus”.
