A truck accident on the B254 near Großenlüder-Bimbach resulted in a flood of broken glass. Deutsche Bahn checked whether the statics of the bridge were damaged.

Großenlüder – According to the police, a truck driver aged 62 was traveling on the B254 federal highway at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon (May 19th). He drove his im Main-Kinzig district Registered tractor-trailer from Fulda in the direction of Großenlüder. The trailer of the vehicle of a company from the Kinzigtal was equipped with a crane.

The crane is used to empty waste glass containers. “At the height of Großenlüder-Bimbach, the crane got stuck on a bridge that runs over the B254, so that it tore down and the rear hatches of the trailer loaded with used glass were pushed open,” reported a spokesman for the East Hesse police headquarters in Fulda.

As a result, waste glass was spread over a distance of about 100 meters on the road. Fortunately, the driver of the truck was uninjured. The bridge is the railway bridge in the immediate vicinity of Oberbimbach train station. Slight damage could be seen below the bridge.

An emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn looked at the bridge after the accident. He gave the all-clear. The bridge suffered only minor damage from the tractor-trailer. According to the DB expert's assessment, the statics of the bridge at Oberbimbach station are not damaged. There will therefore be no disruption to train traffic.

The police officers estimated the damage to the truck at around 20,000 euros. “The material damage caused to the bridge as well as the course of the accident are part of the ongoing accident investigation,” the Fulda police station concluded. The road had to be temporarily closed during the cleaning work.

Meanwhile On May 20th and 21st, a transformer weighing around 300 tons will be transported from Fulda to Dipperz in two night tripst. The transport team is around 80 meters long. The police can temporarily close streets. Road users are asked to avoid the area as far as possible.
