The police checked 63 trucks on the A66 and found numerous violations. Three vehicles with serious defects were banned from continuing their journey.

Steinau – During an extensive inspection of commercial freight and passenger traffic on Autobahn 66 near Steinau an der Straße on Tuesday (May 5th), emergency services discovered numerous, sometimes serious, violations, according to the police Main-Kinzig district communicates. Three vehicles had to be prohibited from continuing their journey due to serious technical defects.

Officers from the traffic inspection of the South East Hesse Police Headquarters, together with forces from the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and customs, had a checkpoint in the “Hundsrücker Berg” car park in the direction of travel between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m Fulda furnished. In total, they checked 63 trucks and their drivers.

A Polish small van particularly caught the eye of the inspectors: there was unsecured dangerous goods in its loading area – a significant violation with potentially dangerous consequences for all road users. In addition, the driver was unable to provide any evidence of his driving and rest times. A case was initiated against him; He also had to pay a security deposit.

Significant safety risks also emerged in the area of ​​vehicle technology. Officials discovered a brake disc on the front axle of a Polish truck that had cracked several times – a serious defect that, in the worst case, could have led to complete brake failure. Another truck, also from Poland, had tires that were already worn down to the carcass. Both vehicles were immediately banned from continuing their journey.

Vans taken out of service with 30 percent overload

A small van from Eastern Europe was noticed because it was massively overloaded by more than 30 percent. Overloaded vehicles have a significantly longer braking distance and poorer handling, especially when cornering or when taking evasive maneuvers. This can cause you to skid more quickly or, in the worst case, tip over.

In addition to the particularly serious cases, the emergency services documented further violations of the Road Freight Transport Act and social regulations, a cabotage violation, speeding, inadequate load securing and a violation of the Circular Economy Act. In total, the check resulted in eleven security deposits and several warning fines – the total amounted to over 3,600 euros.

Just recently, a tragic accident occurred on the A7 motorway in front of the Hünfeld/Schlitz junction: a police officer was on duty to secure an accident site on the hard shoulder, when a vehicle skidded and threw the officer into the embankment. The officer was injured in the accident.
