Exactly a year ago, the specialist office against sexualized violence in Vogelsberg started its work under new ownership. Time for an initial assessment.
Vogelsberg – The Vogelsberg Habitats (VLR) were awarded the contract as part of a tender by the district, the district announced in a press release. The aim of the restructuring was to separate the specialist office from the youth welfare office in order to give those affected easier access to offers of help while at the same time maintaining the neutrality of the youth welfare office.
Specialist center for sexualized violence in Vogelsberg advises and helps
The specialist center is financed by both the district and state funds from municipal funds. According to Celine Schwarzer, an employee at the specialist center, the transition went smoothly: “In the period from April to December 2025 alone, over 70 affected people sought support from the specialist agency.”
The focus of the work is on children and young people affected by sexual violence. In addition, the advisory service is aimed at parents and youth work professionals, for example in daycare centers, schools or other organizations. The specialist office distinguishes between so-called “hands-off” offenses, in which no physical contact takes place, the creation or distribution of nude images, and “hands-on” offenses, which involve actual physical assault.
In many cases, in addition to those affected, parents or teachers also turn to the advice center to receive support, according to the statement. “We don’t question what those involved report, we believe them and help both in dealing with everyday life and in acute crisis situations,” explains Celine Schwarzer. The advice can be a one-off offer or extend over a longer period of time – depending on individual needs.
In addition to direct advice, the specialist center focuses on prevention
In addition to direct advice, the specialist center focuses on prevention and education. Employees regularly visit schools, daycare centers and other youth welfare providers, present their work and distribute information materials specifically for children and young people. The head of VLR Tobias Rübbert plans to further expand the offer in the future. The task of the specialist center's employees is to give specialists in sensitive areas, such as educators, confidence in their everyday actions and to strengthen them.
