Despite global political uncertainties: There are many training positions available in the Fulda region. The employment agency advises you to apply quickly and provides support.
Fulda – Two months before the end of the school year, there is good news for students who want to graduate in the summer and start training in August: The chances of getting a training place in the Fulda region are good, as the Fulda employment agency announced in a press release.
“Due to the uncertainties resulting from global political events, the willingness of companies in the region to provide training has decreased somewhat,” explained Karsten Hesse, deputy head of the Bad Hersfeld-Fulda employment agency. “Nevertheless, in purely mathematical terms, every young person who is registered as an applicant at the employment agency or at the Fulda district job center has more than one training position to choose from.”
Training positions exceed the number of applicants in the Fulda region
At the Fulda training market conference, the employment agency and representatives from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the district craftsmen's association, the state school authority and the district job center took stock. The number of training places exceeds the number of applicants in almost all areas.
The discrepancy is particularly large in sales, trade, insurance and financial services, warehousing, mechanical engineering and operational technology. In 2025, the number of applicants for a training position increased to 1,458, while the number of registered training positions fell to 1,915.

“From September 2025 to March 2026, 85 teenagers and young adults from the district job center's area of responsibility were registered as looking for a training place. The numbers are at a similar level to the previous year,” said Markus Vogt, specialist service manager of the Fulda district job center.
“Some of the applicants have already found a training place or other prospects. For many, however, their professional future is still unclear, which, in addition to personal reasons, is primarily due to the increasingly difficult training market in the Fulda district.”

“The half-yearly figures show a decline in companies willing to provide training and in training contracts,” says Denise Otto, head of the training and further education division at the IHK Fulda, and speaks of a “tight economic situation” and the “lack of training readiness of many school leavers”, but on the other hand also of a “great need for skilled workers in the region”.
In order to reduce the discrepancy between supply and demand, young people should become ready for training through targeted support offers from the employment agency and the district job center. This can be done through language courses, social support or professional help.

According to their information, there was a peak in the craft sector in 2017 with 488 training positions, the low point was in 2024 (390).
