
The fire department in Wallenrod had to respond to bark mulch fires twice on Saturday. The fires were probably caused by spontaneous combustion.
Wallenrod – In Wallenrod the fire brigade was called upon twice on Saturday (April 11th). As reporters on site reported, bark mulch had burned in both cases. The first incident occurred at around 6:19 a.m. this morning. Around 13 firefighters from the Lauterbach Volunteer Fire Department responded to fight the fire and cool down the mulch.
Bark mulch burns in Wallenrod – spontaneous combustion suspected
Employees of the affected company supported the extinguishing work by shifting the mulch with two wheel loaders. In the afternoon around 3:49 p.m., the fire department was called again to the same location because the bark mulch had ignited again. Eight emergency services were deployed and were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Again, two of the company's wheel loaders were used to transport the mulch.
The cause of the fires is still unclear, but according to reporters, spontaneous combustion is suspected in both cases. Luckily no one was injured.
The day before, a garage in the Main-Kinzig district caught fire. Initially it was said that the fire had spread to a stable. Fortunately, that wasn't the case.
