Bioidentical hormones, nutritional supplements and co.Remedies for menopausal symptoms tested! What really helps against menopause symptoms?
And suddenly you don't understand yourself anymore!
Around nine million women in Germany are currently experiencing a hormone crisis. It's no wonder that the range of remedies designed to relieve menopausal symptoms is constantly increasing. But not all products keep what they promise! We followed four women on their journey to find out what really helps during menopause.
What really helps against menopausal symptoms? Four women dare to take the test!
Our reporter Nina is currently suffering from both sleep problems and weight gain – typical symptoms of the so-called perimenopause. This describes the phase before menopause in which the hormones estrogen and progesterone increasingly decrease. As a result, those affected struggle with irregular menstruation, mood swings, hot flashes and much more.
There are many solutions for these typical symptoms on the Internet. But what really helps? Our reporter dares to take the big test – together with three other women: 57-year-old Barbara, 47-year-old Yvonne and 46-year-old Jutta. Together and Accompanied by gynecologist Pia Baust, the four women try out different remedies for menopausal symptoms over eight weeks – from nutritional supplements to bioidentical hormones.

Bioidentical hormones, estrogen gel and the like – these are the products the four women tested!
From micronutrients to bioidentical hormones to estrogen gel: Dr. med. Pia Baust prescribed a different therapy depending on the symptoms of the four women.

Jutta, whose symptoms have mainly manifested itself in her more anxious and worried mood, has too little progesterone and a deficiency in vitamins B12 and D. Dr. med. Build – in addition to the vitamins – 100 milligrams of a ready-dosed progesterone daily. The big advantage: DThe preparation is paid for by the health insurance company.
Barbara, who did not postpone her last hormone replacement therapy, is again starting a so-called Rimkus therapy. The 57-year-old receives bioidentical hormones that are individually tailored to her needs. The latter are obtained from the yam root and extracted in the laboratory from the active ingredient diosgenin. The result is bioidentical progesterone and estrogen. In contrast to Jutta's therapy, Rimkus therapy is not covered by health insurance. Barbara has to cover the costs – which are at least 50 euros per month – carry it yourself.
Yvonne, who suffers from low estrogen levels and therefore severe hot flashes, is given estrogen gel for testing. Our reporter Nina in turn has one Complex of 23 micronutrients – to combat your vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.
You can see how the four women are doing during the test phase – between renovation work, family life and sport – in the video below.

Comparison of dietary supplements: How useful are vitamins etc. during the menopause?
Before Dr. med. Baust's prescribed therapy started, our reporter Nina took another look at four dietary supplements – and got professional help for them: Angela Clausen from the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Center.
The expert initially criticizes the lack of application instructions for several products. Three products contain so-called isoflavones, which are intended to naturally balance hormonal fluctuations. However, these should only be taken in certain quantities. Information on intake and dosage is therefore necessary.

The consumer advocate also sees a problem with the marketing claims used. “There is not this menopause drug complex“, emphasizes Angela Clausen. The expert particularly takes a critical look at the so-called menopause vitamins, which come in gummy bear form.
“There isn’t even any scientific study that would say that you absolutely need all these vitamins,” explains Angela Clausen. Our reporter, who previously tested the gummy bears herself, was also unable to find any long-term positive effects within the two weeks.

Test result in video! These products could really relieve menopausal symptoms
The four women tested the different products for two months – and the results are really impressive! Jutta, whose progesterone level was 2.4 before the test, rose to 11 within two months – no wonder that Jutta wants to continue the therapy.
But the others have also had positive effects: Yvonne's hot flashes have gotten better, Barbara feels visibly more energetic and less tired – and our reporter? “I've also lost almost three kilos and am sleeping better. I feel like I have more energy than before“, explains Nina optimistically.
In the video above, they reveal what conclusions the four testers have drawn from the test and what was their biggest aha moment.
