Unknown people are renaming CDU offices – the office in Fulda is also affected. The background to the nationwide campaign is still unclear.
Fulda – Unknown people have apparently also manipulated the office of the CDU district association in Fulda on Google Maps. The office on Michael-Henkel-Straße is currently run under the name “CDU Eierhaus Kreisverband Fulda”. The change is part of a nationwide campaign that affects numerous CDU locations in Germany.
The Fulda CDU district association reacts unimpressed to the renaming: “Actually, we don't want to comment on such nonsense. We see the action in a very relaxed manner,” our newspaper said when asked. According to the district association's knowledge, only the location in Fulda in the region is affected by the renaming. This had already been at least partially reversed on Thursday afternoon.
Unknown people manipulate addresses of CDU offices on Google Maps
With the map service, addresses can be renamed through user suggestions for changes. Unknown people specifically used this function to rename CDU offices. In addition to Fulda, other locations in Hesse were also affected, such as Limburg-Weilburg and Gießen. In some cases, names like “Eierhaus” or “Eierrat” appeared.
Similar incidents also occurred in Frankfurt: There the address of the CDU faction was temporarily displayed in the Römer as “CDU Egg Faction”. The district office now operated under a correspondingly different name. “We correct such changes immediately when we become aware of them,” said Frankfurt district manager Thorsten Weber.
The CDU Hesse stated that the problem was known. The regional association supports affected district associations locally if necessary. The party headquarters in Wiesbaden was initially not affected.
It is unclear who is behind the action. According to media reports, there could be a connection with protests by young people. At the beginning of March, an 18-year-old showed a poster with a provocative slogan “Merz leck Eier” against CDU leader and Chancellor Friedrich Merz at a demonstration against conscription in Berlin. The police then investigated on suspicion of defamation. A demonstration against conscription also took place in Fulda at the beginning of March. (dpa, lio, mlo)
