Around 1,000 portions of lunch are eaten every day in primary schools in the Vogelsberg district. The district continues to expand its school lunch offerings.
Vogelsbergkreis – noodles are always good. Plus, of course, sauce, a dessert, and if you want, you can get fruit and fresh vegetables. There are a good 130 portions that are “eaten” in the Alsfeld city school on this day. So many children take advantage of the childcare offer and they receive a warm lunch – of course not an isolated case in the Vogelsberg district, but now the rule.
1000 lunches a day: Vogelsbergkreis is expanding school meals
“At almost all of our primary schools, the children can eat warm lunch. Numerous employees ensure that the plates are well filled,” says Matthias Röse, head of the Office for School Education and Care. However, most schools do not cook themselves; rather, the dishes are delivered by various providers and caterers.
“All-day care is already an integral and successful part of our Vogelsberg school landscape.” 21 of the 22 primary schools already meet the requirements for the nationwide legal right to full-day care, which will be gradually introduced from the 2026/27 school year. This will mean that more and more families will decide to take advantage of the offer – “a development that we as school authorities expressly welcome and actively shape,” emphasizes Röse.
In order to meet this growing demand, the Vogelsberg district is already investing in the infrastructure of the schools. New canteens, modernized serving kitchens and expanded support buildings are being built at many locations. “With the increasing number of children who stay at school during lunchtime, the need for high-quality, child-friendly meals is also growing,” adds Kristina Dickel, who oversees exactly this area in the school organization. Around 1,000 portions of lunch are already being served in primary schools between Schotten and Antrifttal, between Schlitz and Homberg.
Vogelsbergkreis is looking for new suppliers for school meals
“We see growing demand in Alsfeld and the surrounding area and would like to expand our offering.” The Office for School Education and Care is open to various models: It relies on experienced caterers who specialize in communal catering, as well as on catering businesses and restaurants from the region that want to expand their capacities, or on commercial kitchens or butcher shops with party services that are interested in the regular delivery of hot meals.
Interested parties can contact Kristina Dickel from the Office for School Education and Care without obligation. She is available at telephone number (06641) 977296 and email asbb@vogelsbergkreis.de reachable. (rsb)
Also The city of Fulda sees itself as well equipped when it comes to all-day care. “We will meet all legal claims that come to us as youth welfare providers on August 1st,” explains Mayor Dag Wehner (CDU).
