The Economics Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Wolfang Blank (66), was seriously injured in a car accident. A short time later he's back on the phone again.
According to RTL information, the independent politician was involved in a crash on Thursday morning on Autobahn 20 between the Bad Sülze and Ticino junctions. His company BMW crashed into a road maintenance vehicle.

According to police, the BMW was traveling in the left lane. At the same time, a highway maintenance vehicle moved from the stationary lane to the left lane. This is where the accident occurred. The BMW crashed into the central barrier and overturned. There were two people in the BMW: the minister and a driver. Both were seriously injured. The Oststeezeitung initially reported that the politician had been critically injured. A ministry spokesman told RTL: “Minister Blank is injured but can be contacted. He has already spoken to his office on the phone.”
The police are investigating how the accident could have happened. The highway is still closed. According to initial police estimates, the material damage caused amounts to more than 135,000 euros.
Dr. Wolfgang Blank has been Minister for Economy, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labor in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since December 11, 2024. He was born in Riedlingen (Baden-Württemberg) in 1959.
