Nurse finally wants justice Did Frank D. intentionally infect his ex Bilel with HIV?
Bilel Ouali (30) had to wait four years for this day.
His ex-boyfriend Frank D. (55) is on trial in Offenbach for bodily harm. “There is suspicion of dangerous bodily harm against him,” confirmed public prosecutor Sebastian Knell in response to an RTL request. Despite an HIV infection, he is said to have had unprotected sex with his then partner Bilel for years. The nurse was also infected.
Frank D. was probably already HIV-positive when Bilel met him
In the RTL interview, Bilel says that he met Frank in a bar in 2016. He was 20 years old at the time and was in the middle of training to become a nurse. “Of course we also talked about HIV,” remembers the now 30-year-old. He was tested regularly at work back then, but all the tests were negative, so at some point he stopped worrying about it.

The couple is said to have lived together monogamously for six years. They even got engaged in 2020. But today Bilel knows that Frank must have had secrets from him even back then. He suspects that his friend was infected for years and didn't tell him about it.
Frank D. and Bilel suddenly have strange symptoms of illness
Then Frank suddenly feels bad. He becomes increasingly weaker and suddenly can barely swallow. Bilel also suddenly suffers from diarrhea, a sore throat and skin rashes. Because the couple had just been vaccinated against Corona, the nurse initially attributed the symptoms to side effects of the vaccination. But then he starts to have suspicions.

At some point he can persuade Frank to go to the doctor. Bilel remembers taking his fiancé to the hospital at the end of January 2022. He then does a rapid HIV test at home to be sure. That's positive.

Bilel takes a rapid HIV test when he becomes suspicious
Bilel remembers that he then called in sick at work. “Then I collapsed.” The nurse makes an appointment with the doctor, who examines him and confirms the result of the rapid test. Bilel was infected with HIV. “I came to terms with it, I was happy that it finally came out,” says the 30-year-old today. “Still, I was delirious,” he says. It just worked back then.

To this day, Frank D. apparently cannot admit what he is said to have done to his partner back then. When the judge asks him why he never said he was positive, the defendant replies: “He never asked. We never talked about it and I assumed I wasn't contagious.”
Bilel lives with his HIV infection today
But that's exactly what he apparently was. The public prosecutor's office assumes that Frank D. infected Bilal between 2019 and 2022. If convicted, he now faces a prison sentence of between six months and ten years.

But Bilal's main concern in the trial is justice. “If I hadn't taken the test, we might still be together,” says the nurse. “And I would have died of HIV.” He is happy that the trial is finally taking place. But he wants to try not to look at his ex in the courtroom.

“Mentally, I’m still not feeling so well today,” says Bilal. But at least physically he no longer has any problems. Because of his HIV infection, he takes a tablet every day and goes to the doctor every three months to have his levels checked. “I am now below the detection limit,” he explains. This means that he cannot infect others through sexual intercourse or blood contact.
