Strong feelings for Julian, great concern for Lilly
In the midst of emotional turbulence at GZSZ, Maren, played by Eva Mona Rodekirchen, is faced with an inner conflict: her love for Julian (Onno Buß) clashes with her duty of care towards her daughter Lilly, who is currently battling bulimia after a relapse. “Every moment with Julian feels almost forbidden because I don’t want Lilly to suffer any more,” the actress admits in the interview. Between heart and responsibility, her character Maren struggles to find a path that allows her own feelings without hurting Lilly – a balancing act between love, guilt and loyalty.

How does Maren feel about Julian?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “She has feelings for him. And they are stronger than she wanted to admit to herself. Every encounter throws her heart out of sync and she realizes how attracted she is to him. At the same time, she knows that Lilly is still emotionally involved and is in a very vulnerable phase anyway. This is not an easy crush for Maren – it is a real dilemma. But could she ever be happy with Julian, even though he was also in bed with Lilly?”
What role does the age difference play between the two?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “Actually, none more. That was perhaps a thought at the beginning, but between Maren and Julian it's far from being about age. They meet as equals, understand each other, feel connected. The problem is not the number between them – but the fact that Lilly also had feelings for him.”

How do you personally feel about a relationship with a larger age difference – can it work?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “I think that relationships with a larger age difference can work as long as you're on the same wavelength. Age is just a number – respect, honesty and real feelings are crucial. That's exactly what Maren feels in Julian, which makes it difficult for her to keep her distance. In my private life, I have friends who are much older or 17 years younger, and that works wonderfully. I also try to take children, like my own daughter, seriously – they have just as much to say.”

How much does her guilty conscience towards Lilly bother her?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “Enormous. Lilly struggles not only with heartbreak, but also with her bulimia – and now realizes that she needs therapeutic help. Seeing how much her daughter is suffering, how her self-esteem is crumbling, is almost unbearable for Maren. Her guilty conscience is huge. She constantly wonders whether she is causing additional harm to Lilly with her own feelings.”

Is there another chance for Maren and Julian?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “Rationally, Maren would say: no. Her children always come first. She is incredibly loyal – especially to her own daughter. But feelings cannot simply be switched off. And precisely because there are so many real things between her and Julian, this question remains open. It's not a clear no – but a very complicated maybe.”
What would you wish for Maren?
Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “I would hope that at some point she would allow herself to think about herself. She so often puts her needs aside – especially now that Lilly needs her. But Maren is not just a mother, she is also a woman with longings. I wish her a love that doesn't feel wrong and that doesn't make her feel guilty.”

Eva Mona Rodekirchen: “The feelings don't go away – on the contrary. Little by little, Julian also notices that Maren is much more torn inside than he thought. And yet these moments keep coming up between them that you can't plan. Finally, Maren dares to take a cautious step forward – very carefully, with the handbrake on. But as long as Lilly is still fighting with herself, everything remains on very thin ice.”
