Boris Rhein thanked him for organizing the Hessentag and expressly thanked Mayor Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU) and the Hessentag couple. Rhein spoke of around 600 people who had decided on the demanding police service.

The large number of participants is a sign of appreciation and respect for the police. Police officers deserve special recognition, said Rhein, who refers to his previous time as Interior Minister and speaks of a special bond with the police.

We can rely on each other – both the state and the future police officers and vice versa. The swearing-in was a “goosebumps moment” that will be remembered for a long time. Rhein also mentions that Vera Dudyka was also sworn in by the Hessentag couple.

In his speech, Prime Minister Boris Rhein emphasized that the candidates said “yes” to a special profession today Hesse. It is a moving day that fills the young people and their families with pride. The path to the police is not easy and requires both physical and mental strength.

Loyalty to democracy and the rule of law

Only the best could do this job. By taking the oath, the candidates committed themselves to loyalty to democracy and the rule of law as well as to the security of citizens. The police therefore have a central importance for all people.

Rhein recalls Germany's history under National Socialism, in which people were disenfranchised and degraded, and describes today's police as a bulwark of the Basic Law. The job is not like any other: it is a special task that is aimed at ensuring freedom and security in everyday life.

Police officers embody the state's monopoly on violence and therefore have great responsibility and power. At the same time, the profession requires empathy, prudence and tact. The police have earned a lot of trust, but also have to deal with threats and attacks.

Any attack on police officers is shameful and unacceptable and requires a decisive response from the state and politicians. The emergency services deserve respect, for which there is great applause in the hall. Attacks on police officers must be consistently prosecuted.

16,000 police employees are on duty in Hesse

Anyone who physically attacks police officers belongs in the penal system – “without ifs and buts”. In such cases, prison sentences should be the rule. Finally, Rhein wishes the new candidates strength, steadfastness and joy for their future service and always a healthy return from every deployment.

Interior Minister Roman Poseck described the swearing-in ceremony as a happy day on which the candidates would become full members of the Hessian police and take on social responsibility. More than 16,000 police employees carried out their duties in Hesse.

In a tense security situation, a strong police force is particularly important and deserves full support. The country has expanded the powers of the police and is investing in modern equipment such as artificial intelligence, drone defense and helicopters. What remains crucial, however, are the people who work on cases, represent the state and explain it.

Poseck also emphasizes that the candidates are joining a “very successful company”: Hesse is one of the safest federal states. Crimes are not worthwhile there, the risk of detection is very high – especially in Fulda, where record numbers are currently being recorded.

With the ceremonial moment of swearing in, after almost an hour, everyone present at the swearing-in ceremony in the Esperanto Hall stands up. The police candidates raise their hands and take their oath together to the Basic Law and the Hessian Constitution. Thunderous applause throughout the hall.
