At the district synod of the Evangelical Church District of Fulda, the focus was recently on numerous personnel decisions and new plans.

Fulda – The district synod of the Evangelical Church District of Fulda set the key personnel course on Saturday, March 7th in the House of Orange and at the same time focused on strengthening scout work. As the Fulda Evangelical Church District reports, 71 of the 87 synod members from 24 parishes took part in the constituent meeting.

Andreas Maraun from the Bronnzell-Eichenzell parish was re-elected as honorary chairman of the synod with a clear majority and is now taking up his third term of office. Maraun, who is also represented in the state synod and in the council of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW), emphasized in his presentation the harmonious and constructive cooperation of the past few years. By virtue of his office he continues to belong to the Church district board, which is headed by Dean Dr. Thorsten Waap is standing.

Pastor Marvin Lange from the Bonhoeffer congregation, who continues to serve as deputy dean and deputy synod chairman, was also confirmed in office. The delegates appointed Diaconia Pastor Lars Peter Rilke as his deputy. Simone Möhring from the Christ Church and Hilde Hehr-Willhardt from the Burghaun-Rothenkirchen parish were elected to the church district board as non-ordained members. In the future, your deputies will be Edda Steinmetz from the Kreuzkirche and Theresia Vonderau-Fern from the Bonhoeffer community. The synod members expressed their confidence in Rainer Knieper from the Flieden-Neuhof parish to represent the church district in the EKKW state synod.

In addition, elections for the provost and dean selection committee as well as the diaconal committee were on the agenda. In addition, the committees for finance, construction, youth and church music as well as the board of trustees for telephone counseling were formed.

Dean Thorsten Waap reported that the church district had submitted an application to the regional church to expand the church district board. The committee currently consists of five people, two clergy and three laypeople. In order to intensify the cooperation between church and diakonia, an amendment to the statutes was applied for, which would give a representative of the diakonia a permanent seat on the church district board.

The synod placed a focus on scout work. Jonas Höchst from the Association of Christian Girl Scouts (VCP) Hesse presented plans to expand scouting work in the church district under the title “Seven places – one promise”. While the existing scout tribes in Hettenhausen and Fulda look back on a long tradition, the groups in Bad Salzschlirf and Hofbieber are to be stabilized and new tribes are to be founded in other places. The aim is to ensure the long-term existence of the groups through networks of parents and parishes.

In the greetings, Provost Sabine Kropf-Brandau focused on upcoming transformation processes. She acknowledged that change is not always the church's favorite word, but emphasized that there is great opportunity in every new beginning. She referred to the coming one with particular anticipation Hesse Day in Fulda, at which the churches will present themselves ecumenically for the first time under the common motto “One in the heart”.. She encouraged full-time and volunteer workers to actively participate in the event. According to the church district, Dean Ralf Gebauer from the Schmalkalden church district brought “warm greetings from the other side of the Rhön” and underlined the solidarity between the church districts.
