Sweat-inducing fundraising marathon: Around 120 cyclists competed for six hours in Fulda to set up an inclusive organic vegetable garden. The performance was measured using a laser on the rear wheel. In the end, the fundraising goal was even exceeded.

Fulda – For six hours, around 120 cyclists gave their all at the Paradiso Beauty & Fitness Club in Fulda to support the development of an inclusive organic vegetable garden with a sweaty fundraising marathon. The St. Antonius Foundation's charity event “Dambling for a good cause” took place on Saturday (March 7th) and ensured a great atmosphere in the saddle with hot rhythms, loud cheers and great enthusiasm.

Right from the start, foundation chairman Dr. Wolfram Geiger called it “a really hot tire” – and he was right. The participants pedaled in teams on indoor bikes, taking turns every 50 minutes and literally letting the rear wheel overheat. At the end of each lap, the temperature on the rear wheel was measured with a laser thermometer: the hotter the wheel, the better the performance, as the St. Antonius Foundation reports.

The start was a special moment for Geiger. According to the foundation, he was “totally thrilled” by the many expectant and good-humored faces. It's not just about exercise, health and fun, but above all about a good cause: The project “er:growing”, an organic vegetable garden that is currently being built in Haimbach, is supported. Among other things, people with multiple severe disabilities should find meaningful work there and develop new perspectives. The concept is “great” because it focuses on people and their abilities and at the same time works economically, said Geiger.

Despite the competitive nature, the community spirit was in the foreground. The teams cheered each other on, sang along to the songs and patted each other on the back in appreciation after the rounds. Many stayed on site after their assignment, exchanged ideas and ended the sporting day in a convivial atmosphere. “Today it’s all about having fun together,” said Oliver Dimmerling, sales manager of the Paradiso Beauty & Fitness Club, at the start. He motivated the participants to “give it their all” and join in with the music in order to inspire each other to achieve new heights.

24 teams lined up for a good cause – fundraising target exceeded

In terms of sport, the soccer players from MSG Pilgerzell/Barockstadt prevailed in the third edition of the charity event. The four young athletes Sienna, Lucie, Lea and Lotta pedaled particularly hard and achieved an average temperature of 27.8 degrees on the rear wheel. In return you will receive a voucher for a barbecue evening together at Antonius. The team “Die Genobiker” from VR-Bank Fulda followed in second place with 27.4 degrees, closely followed by the team from the East Hesse Police Headquarters with 27.2 degrees. Places four to six were taken by Sifar GmbH and two teams from the Paradiso Beauty & Fitness Club, each with 27 degrees.

A total of 24 teams took part. Mischa Krewer, member of the advisory board of the St. Antonius Foundation, thanked everyone involved for their commitment, according to the statement. His special thanks went to the initiators Kai Nüchter, managing director of VeloCulTour, and Oliver Dimmerling from Paradiso, who significantly supported the event. The numerous sponsors also contributed to the fact that the donation goal of 4,000 euros was not only reached, but even exceeded. All of the proceeds go towards the development of the organic vegetable gardening “er:growing”, which is intended to be a “workplace for everyone”.

In addition to Paradiso and VeloCulTour, the sponsors included the companies Hohmann & Heil Textilvertriebsgesellschaft mbH, wilms wirtschaftsberatung gmbh & co kg, AKM Wohndesign, Giebel Bau AG, Leinweber Landtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, fraureith Büro für Text und PR, Wende Erdbau GmbH, Muth & Partner Wirtschaftsprüfunger – Steuerberater – Rechtsanwälte mbH, HUBTEX Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG and the Automotive workshop Christoph Vonderau. A special thank you went to Stefanie Jörges from antonius, who organized the event together with her colleagues with a lot of commitment, love and enthusiasm.
