From March 9th, Marktstrasse in Eiterfeld will be completely closed. Commuters between Thuringia and Bad Hersfeld have to take detours for months.
Eiterfeld – Marktstrasse (L3170) in Eiterfeld will be completely closed to traffic from Monday (March 9th). As the market town of Eiterfeld has announced, the road construction work on the L3170 state road is expected to last until October. Commuters between Thuringia and Bad Hersfeld in particular have to be prepared for restrictions.
The closure requires large-scale diversions. Vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes will be rerouted from Arzell via the municipal roads An der Schlierbach and Arzeller Straße as well as the state road L3380 to the town center of Eiterfeld. Oncoming traffic from the intersection in Eiterfeld follows the same route in the opposite direction.
Complete closure in Eiterfeld: Marktstrasse closed for months
This route is not an option for heavier vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Due to the limited load capacity on the An der Schlierbach municipal road, trucks and other heavy vehicles have to take a significantly longer detour via the B27 federal road and the L3380 state road via Steinbach, Körnbach and Eiterfeld/Ortsmitte.
There is a relief for inner-city traffic: cars as well as school buses and regular buses are allowed to use Schulstrasse, which runs parallel to Marktstrasse. However, the road traffic authority expressly points out that the speed limit is 30 and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are not allowed to drive on the road. Violations would be monitored and punished.
Because of the bus stops on Schulstrasse, the authorities also remind you of the applicable rules of conduct: You may only drive past buses with the hazard warning lights on at a maximum walking speed of 10 km/h – this also applies to oncoming traffic.
If a bus approaches a stop with the hazard lights on, it must not be overtaken. Drivers must remain ready to brake at all times, as children in particular could cross the street in front of or behind the bus. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in penalties: anyone who endangers passengers will face a fine of 70 euros and one point in Flensburg.
If you exceed the speed limit, you can be fined up to 950 euros, banned from driving for three months and given two points. There will also be some full closures in the Fulda district in 2026: A total of 38 construction projects are pending for Hessen Mobil in the Fulda district.
