Serious accident near Fulda: Transporter crashes into dump truck
A white Ford van from Deutsche Bahn registered in Frankfurt and a dump truck from a company in Alzenau were involved in the accident. During the collision, the front of the van was severely crushed. The windshield was completely destroyed.
The accident occurred because the van driver hit the back of the truck with his car. According to information from the scene of the accident, the sun was severely blinding to road users. The driver of the fully loaded truck apparently did not initially notice the impact. His truck pulled the rear-ended Sprinter a few meters further along the highway.

“It could have turned out much worse. The sprinter driver and his passenger were very lucky,” said Eichenzell fire inspector Martin Fischer. A first responder complained that many road users simply continued driving after the accident. He and others looked after the injured while people driving by took photos with their cell phones.
The police closed the A66. The Eichenzell fire department freed the trapped passenger from the van, but did not have to use any heavy equipment. In their incident report, those responsible at the control center initially assumed that at least one person was trapped in their vehicle after the accident.
Emergency services drive injured people to hospital
The ADAC rescue helicopter Christoph 28 from Fulda was called. He ended up on the highway. According to the police's initial findings, the van driver and his passenger were injured in the accident. Both were taken to hospital by ambulance. The van driver was able to get out of the car himself.
A police spokesman in Fulda was initially unable to provide any information about the exact severity of the injuries. The van driver apparently only suffered minor injuries, while his passenger was seriously injured. The driver of the dump truck was apparently uninjured. He took care of the towing on site.

An hour after the collision, the police were able to reopen the left lane in the direction of Frankfurt/Wiesbaden to traffic while the recovery of the accident vehicles began. In addition to the police and rescue services, the fire departments from Eichenzell, Löschenrod and Welkers were on site with 22 emergency services.
Meanwhile Two days earlier, a driver collided with a truck in her car on the B254 in the Vogelsberg district. The young woman was seriously injured in this accident on the federal highway.
