A traffic stop in Steinau led to a large drug discovery. The police in Kinzigtal are now investigating a 49-year-old on suspicion of illegal trafficking in narcotics.

Steinau – On Monday evening (March 2nd), an initially routine traffic stop in Steinau an der Straße led to an investigation into suspected illegal drug trafficking. This was announced by the police in Kinzigtal. The officers stopped a Suzuki on Brüder-Grimm-Straße because a driving light was broken.

When the 49-year-old driver was checked, “the suspicion arose that the stopped person had been driving his vehicle on public roads despite consuming amphetamine and THC,” explained police spokesman Felix Geis.

A breath alcohol test that the man voluntarily completed showed a blood alcohol level of 0.54. It also turned out that the man from the Main-Kinzig district did not have a valid driver's license.

During the subsequent search of the vehicle, the emergency services found a significant amount of amphetamine and around 50 grams of hashish in a backpack in the back seat. These narcotics were seized by the officers.

On the orders of the public prosecutor, the police then searched the suspect's apartment. They discovered around a kilogram of marijuana, a small amount of hashish and around 150 grams of amphetamine, which were also confiscated.

The officers also seized packaging material, consumer and portioning utensils and two cell phones. The suspect was taken to the police station where a blood sample was taken.

The police investigation is not yet complete. A day before A 25-year-old in Steinau fled from the police on a motorized two-wheeler. The young man is suspected of having taken drugs.
