Howard Carpendale has been on stage for 60 years, keeping his fans in a good mood and feeling happy. Although he has had very good positions in the charts several times, he has never reached first place in this country. Until now.
Singer Howard Carpendale gave himself the best present for his 80th birthday: for the first time in his 60-year stage career, he reached number one in the Official German Album Charts, as GfK Entertainment announced. His new album “Zeitlos”, which contains new recordings of his biggest hits as well as new songs, also marks his tenth top 5 record.
The pop legend turned 80 in January and is planning his farewell tour through Germany this year. According to the information, he has not yet been able to reach number one in Germany in either the single charts or the album charts. In total, the South African native has already been in the top 100 with singles and albums 1,140 times. His first top ten hit came in 1970 with “The Beautiful Girl from Page 1”.
Rock and indie artists dominate the other places in the album charts. Post-hardcore trio Fjørt comes in second with “Belle époque,” followed by indie folkers Mumford & Sons in third with “Prizefighter.” Other new additions to the top 10 include the Ruhrpott band Der Butterwegge with “Liebe & Revolte” in fifth place, the supergroup Universum25 with “Die Maschinen Wann leben” in eighth place and the crossover pioneers Clawfinger with “Before We All Die” in ninth place. Rapper Crystal F comes in at number six with “Febertrauma”.
Taylor Swift celebrates her second number one hit in Germany in the single charts. Her song “Opalite” takes the top spot, while her 13-week number one hit “The Fate Of Ophelia” remains at number three. Thanks to Zara Larsson coming in at number 2 with “Lush Life,” Raye with “Where Is My Husband!” at number four and HUNTR/X with “Golden” at number five, female stars dominate the top five.
The Official German Charts are determined by GfK Entertainment on behalf of the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI) and cover around 90 percent of music sales. According to the information, they are based on sales and usage data from around 2,600 retailers, including stationary shops, download portals, streaming platforms and e-commerce providers.
