She has been hiding for so many years.
“If only I could find the right words to tell you how much I missed you”: This is what the British singer Duffy wrote on her new Instagram account at the end of May. Almost three weeks after the surprising post from a recording studio, the former pop icon has now appeared publicly. She even had her photo taken with a waitress in a café. The photo of the two women is now being shared on Facebook.
Duffy, where have you been hiding all these years?
The locality Caffi Largo in Pwllheli (Wales) captioned the post: “Well-known Nefyn singer Amy Duffy stopped by Caffi this morning. Always great to see local talent supporting local places. ❤️”
In the photo, Duffy smiles at the camera and wears her striking blonde mane down; she seems visibly in a good mood.

Duffy shot to overnight fame in 2008 with the release of her hit song Mercy on the album Rockferry, which won her three BRIT Awards, a Grammy and an Ivor Novello Award.
She later released a second album and announced a third, but then disappeared from public view without giving fans or the music industry an explanation. A confidant at the time said, according to the Daily Mail, that Duffy simply “didn’t want to be found”; For the next nine years she lived largely in seclusion in her house in Surrey.

After being almost forgotten by many, the singer made an explosive return to the spotlight in 2020: in a long essay on Instagram titled “The 5th House,” she explained the reason for her disappearance.
The now 41-year-old described how she was attacked and drugged in a restaurant while celebrating her 26th birthday in 2010. She was then taken abroad and raped, then flown home and held there for four weeks. She reported that the perpetrator raped her in a hotel – she did not name the perpetrator – and that she feared she would be “eliminated” but managed to escape captivity.

“The truth is, and please trust me, I am fine and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held for several days,” she wrote. “Many of you ask what happened to me, where I went and why. You ask why I didn't use my voice to express my pain? I didn't want to show the world the sadness in my eyes.”
16 years after the terrible experience, Duffy is now returning to the music industry. The singer, born Aimée Anne Duffy, announced on Instagram at the end of last month that she would be holding a small secret concert in London where she would present new songs. The July 5 concert will be Duffy's first public performance since her abrupt disappearance following the events of 2010.

Duffy also announced a new documentary on Disney+. The streamer described the project as one that will be supported “by new, unprecedented access” to the singer, complemented by a rich, nostalgic archive as well as interviews with family, friends and close associates in the music industry. The documentary is intended to tell the story of her life – from her childhood in Wales to her meteoric rise to her withdrawal from the public eye after the incredible experience.
There were already indications in June of last year that Duffy was working on new music. Last month, she returned to Instagram and shared the black and white photo of herself in the recording studio with the caption. How nice that things are moving on for the singer!
