However, this does not only apply to us, but also to the DFB chef Anton Schmaus. National players love sucuk pasta! DFB chef Anton Schmaus reveals his recipe
Our national players are always provided with a large buffet by DFB chef Anton Schmaus, as the chef reveals in an RTL interview on “Deutschland am Morgen”. From salad to soup to the pasta station: the footballers can expect a range of dishes that “meet all nutritional requirements,” says the chef. However, there is one dish that the players are particularly looking forward to: the sucuk pasta!

RTL was also allowed to try the sucuk pasta created by the DFB chef (albeit with fusilli instead of gnocchi) – and was impressed!

“Sucuk pasta has always been very popular. I developed that at some point, in 2018, I think,” says Schmaus. But what exactly is the German national team's favorite dish? “Sucuk is a beef sausage, and the pasta is actually very simple pasta – just breadcrumbs and flour, a little water, olive oil,” explains the DFB chef, who we will soon be able to see again on “Kitchen Impossible”.

According to the star chef, everyone would like the pasta, but it is a very simple dish – perfect for cooking the national players' favorite recipe at home, right? It's good that the DFB chef has already revealed the recipe for his legendary sucuk pasta on his Instagram account. We'll tell you which ingredients you need and how to prepare the pasta and sauce perfectly.

Prepare sucuk pasta – it tastes like it was made by the DFB chef
The DFB chef starts with the Preparation of homemade pasta. To do this, you first have to make the dough, then shape the gnocchi:
-
Slowly knead the flour with lukewarm water and a dash of olive oil to create a homogeneous, smooth mass.
-
Mix the breadcrumbs with a little lukewarm water and a splash of olive oil to form a slightly lumpy mixture.
-
Combine both doughs together thoroughly in a food processor – if available – and add a little salt.
-
Then cover the prepared pasta dough and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
-
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and first divide it into slices one centimeter wide, then into strips of the same size.
-
Dust the cut strips with a little flour so that nothing sticks together.
-
Roll into small strands with your hands and cut into pieces about one centimeter thick
-
Now cook the finished gnocchi in salted water for about twelve minutes until they are cooked through.
Is the pasta ready? Then it can go to the tomato sauce.
-
Finely dice the onions, chili and garlic.
-
Sauté lightly in olive oil over a mild heat.
-
Add the coarsely ground pepper and cumin.
-
Then add the canned tomatoes and simmer everything together gently for about an hour until the sauce has thickened nicely.
Now it's time for the sausage:
-
Remove the skin from the sucuk and cut into cubes that are as equal in size as possible, about one centimeter in size.
-
Fry in a little olive oil until crispy.
-
Finally add the quartered cherry tomatoes and the prepared tomato sauce.
-
Now let the whole thing simmer gently for another ten to 15 minutes.
-
Season with salt and cumin.
Finally, the cooked pasta just needs to be mixed with the hot sauce – if necessary, heat it together again. Divide the dish onto plates and garnish with roughly chopped parsley and fresh basil – you now have the national team's favorite dish on your own table at home!
Our editorial team was able to test the pasta in the canteen and can say: it really is a real culinary delight!
