According to the police, suspicious speeches from children in Bruchköbel have been increasing since May. A white box van is at the center of the investigation.
Bruchköbel – Since May 11th, the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters has registered an increasing number of reports of children being approached suspiciously in the Bruchköbel region in the Main-Kinzig district. In this context, a white van with a French license plate was repeatedly reported, the occupants of which were said to have spoken to children.
“So far it has only been confirmed in one case on May 12th that a twelve-year-old boy was approached by people from a white sprinter. The boy was asked to get in because they supposedly knew his parents,” reported police spokesman Thomas Leipold.

The boy reacted correctly, rejected the offer and immediately called emergency services. During the search, officers checked the vehicle in question and its occupants. It turned out that the French license plate did not belong to the vehicle checked.
The license plate and the vehicle were then seized. On Wednesday (May 20th) reports were received again about a white sprinter with a French license plate. A police patrol was able to locate and check the vehicle with the people who had already been checked.
The people were taken to the police station, where an address to those at risk took place. In informational interviews, those affected stated that they had not spoken to children. In this case, as well as two other reported cases involving a suspicious white box truck, there is no evidence to date that children were actually approached, police said.
The vehicles inspected previously belonged to scrap collectors whose holds were loaded with corresponding materials. The police, who say they take the information seriously, do not rule out the possibility that contact may have been made in connection with the scrap search.
Police ask for objectivity and give tips
Officials ask that you approach the issue objectively and not spread unfounded rumors or speculation, especially on social networks. Parents are advised to talk to their children in an age-appropriate manner about dealing with strangers.
Children should be warned not to get into strange vehicles, to keep their distance from unfamiliar vehicles and to loudly draw attention to themselves in unpleasant situations. In such situations, police say children should seek help from other adults and immediately inform parents, teachers or the police.
Anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has information is asked to contact the police. “In acute situations, the emergency number 110 should be dialed immediately,” the police concluded. Meanwhile, in Mömlingen in Lower Franconia, a man suffered life-threatening injuries with, among other things, a machete.
