Hanau – Update from May 20th, 1:58 p.m.: On Wednesday afternoon (May 20th), the Hanau public prosecutor's office and the Southeast Hesse police headquarters announced that the suspect had been remanded in custody. An investigating judge at the Hanau district court issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of manslaughter.
The accused was transferred to a correctional facility. The investigation into the background and the exact sequence of events of the crime is ongoing. These “are conducted very meticulously with the aim of a quick investigation,” as the public prosecutor’s office and the police emphasized.

The result of the autopsy, which took place on Tuesday evening at the request of the public prosecutor, is still pending. As part of the extensive search for clues, drones, service dogs and police forces with technical equipment were used at the crime scene to conduct a thorough search, particularly in overgrown areas.
“The forces deployed were able to secure a possible means of crime,” the investigators reported. According to the public prosecutor's office and police, specialists from the Frankfurt Institute for Forensic Medicine were also called in on Tuesday to support the criminal police work.
First report from May 19th, 8:33 a.m.: A 52-year-old woman was found dead in Hanau early Tuesday morning (May 19th). The public prosecutor's office and the criminal police are investigating suspected homicide. A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is in police custody.
At around 5:40 a.m., the police received an emergency call – made by the later suspect himself. When the officers arrived on August-Schärttner-Straße shortly afterwards, they found the lifeless woman in the parking lot in front of an apartment building. She was covered in blood and showed signs of sharp violence. Any help came too late for the 52-year-old.

The crime scene was cordoned off over a large area and forensic specialists are on site. The further whereabouts of the suspect are still being decided.
