1200 new cycling kilometers for “cycling by numbers” are intended to make the Fulda district a pioneer for comfortable tour planning in Hesse.
Fulda – A 1,200 kilometer long junction system for cycling traffic is currently being set up in the Fulda district as a pilot project in Hesse. The district announced this in a press release. It is known from the Netherlands, Belgium and other tourist regions and makes planning bike tours easier.

This enables “cycling by numbers”. In addition, cyclists will find an information board at each of these points with an overview map that shows either the entire cycle path network or the surrounding area.
For route planning, the desired numbers can be noted in the appropriate order. Then it goes from number to number. Small plaques below the signposts indicate the direction to the next junction. A total of around 3,300 of these plaques will be installed. According to the district, the installation of the plaques and the 260 junction hats is almost complete.
By early autumn, around 60 large-format and around 200 smaller boards will be added for on-site orientation. “There is still a lot of work ahead of the company carrying out the work. For the large panels, two foundations have to be cast in order to securely attach the panel. This work alone will take more than four weeks,” explains Christian Hillenbrand, local mobility coordinator for the Fulda district.
