Lion was the first child to complete the seahorse in the DLRG Schlüchtern local group's inclusion course. His story is an impressive example of willpower.
Schlüchtern – Great joy at the inclusion swimming course DLRG local group Schlüchtern, which was also deployed on the North Sea in 2025: Lion was the first child in this special course to successfully learn to swim and received the “Seahorse” badge under the guidance of DLRG certificate holder Benjamin Tiyaworabun.
Lion mastered the journey from being a beginner swimmer to getting his first official swimming badge – and he did so with impressive ambition and an infectiously good mood. Lion lives with microcephaly and is one of the few children in the world who are able to live with this rare condition. The performance he achieved in the swimming course is all the more remarkable.
Seahorse despite microcephaly: 7-year-old impressed
With a lot of patience, individual support and training tailored to the children's needs, he was able to improve his skills step by step. The success with the Seahorse is not only a personal milestone for him, but also a special sign of how important inclusive offerings are in swimming.
“Lion showed us all what is possible with motivation, trust and joy in learning,” says the first chairman of the DLRG local group, Bertin Wendling. “He infects other children with his positive nature and motivates the entire group,” praises Wendling. But for Lion, the seahorse is just the beginning. His goal is to keep swimming.
He wants to collect the next badges. His enthusiasm for water is clearly noticeable – as is his willingness to always take on new challenges. With its inclusion swimming course, the DLRG local group would like to give children access to safe swimming, regardless of their personal requirements.
In addition to learning important swimming skills, the focus is on community, self-confidence and fun. With his success, Lion is now a role model for many other children – and the best proof that you can achieve a lot with courage, support and enthusiasm.
