Choking hazard for small children: Temu recalls two wooden toys!
A motor skills toy that is actually intended to promote small children's fine motor skills can become a life-threatening trap. Small parts can come loose and be swallowed – with an acute risk of suffocation. We explain here what parents need to pay attention to, how to recognize affected products and what to do in an emergency.
Recall from Temu: Motor skills toys for small children can be life-threatening – parents need to know that now
The Chinese online marketplace Temu warns about two wooden motor skills toys and is recalling them. Those affected are:
a “Wooden bead sorting toy set / stacking blocks” (Seller: Tong Cheng, Product ID 601100225205601, Identification Number 6162916199)

Toys should no longer be used.
Temu / Tong Cheng / Identification number: 6162916199
a “2-in-1 Wooden Magnet Fishing Game Motor Skills Toy” (Seller: GLOBAL PROMO, OPHY brand, product ID 603651930170386, identification number 2411)

Toys should no longer be used.
Temu / GLOBAL PROMO / Identification number: 2411
According to the recall, the products are not sufficiently safe and can injure children.
During the wooden bead sorting game, a plastic part on the string can come loose – this quickly becomes a small part that children can put in their mouths and swallow. It exists acute danger of suffocationif the part gets into the respiratory tract.
The problem with the magnetic fishing game lies in the age rating: Although it is advertised as “24 to 36 months,” it is not suitable for children under 3 years old. Small pieces can come loose, be swallowed, or end up in your nose and ears. Small children in particular put everything in their mouths – accident clinics often see emergencies due to swallowed toy parts.
Consumer advocates and tests have been warning for a long time: Many toys sold via Temu do not comply with EU safety standards; warnings or CE markings are sometimes missing, or pollutant levels are even found to be too high.

What parents should do now
If you have one of the toys mentioned at home:
-
Remove from the children's room immediately. Do not allow toys to be used anymore, even “just for a short time” or “under supervision”.
-
Put away or dispose of in a safe place for children. Store it in such a way that children cannot find it again by chance – it is best to dispose of it straight away if you do not need to return it.
-
Check for small parts. If you are unsure whether it is exactly this product: Check whether anything on the cords or magnetic parts can be loosened and compare product images and IDs with the recall message.
For the refund Customers should contact Temu customer service:

How to identify risky toys
Especially with cheap platforms, consumer advocates recommend a quick security check before purchasing:
-
Is the age statement correct? Toys with parts that can be swallowed are included not to children under 3 years.
-
Is there a CE mark, manufacturer information, address, warnings? If this information is missing, it is a warning signal.
-
Does the toy seem stable? Small parts, magnets, suction cups or plastic plates come loose when pulled – stay away.
If in doubt, choose a product from a specialist retailer or a well-known brand that demonstrably meets EU safety standards.
