Pepperdine University has honored Henning Strauss with his own chair and an honorary doctorate for his entrepreneurial achievements.
Malibu – California's Pepperdine University has awarded German entrepreneur Henning Strauss an honorary doctorate, the Strauss company announced. The 49-year-old CEO of the workwear brand STRAUSS is the first German in the university's history to receive this award. American universities rarely award the title to international personalities.
On May 2, Strauss was honored at the graduation ceremony in Malibu and then gave the closing speech to more than 10,000 guests. The university honors both his entrepreneurial activity and his social commitment with the “Doctor of Business Administration (honoris causa)”.
Strauss CEO awarded an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine University
Strauss himself studied at Pepperdine University, where he graduated in marketing in 2001. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, he returned from the USA earlier than planned and joined the management of the family business that same year.
Starting in the fall semester of 2027, the university will establish a chair named after Strauss. The “Henning Strauss Endowed Chair in Business and Brand Leadership” honors Strauss' understanding of modern brand management, corporate culture and social responsibility. Strauss himself will also teach as a visiting professor at Pepperdine University.
Founded in 1937, Pepperdine University is a Christian university with concentrations in business, law, education, psychology and humanities. The campus is located in Malibu overlooking the Pacific.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Henning Strauss is also involved in his hometown of Bad Orb. There he founded a bilingual high school based on the International Baccalaureate concept and, according to the press release, invested a three-digit million amount in various projects, including the restoration of the spa park and the BALNOVA bathhouse and health center. For this commitment he was made an honorary citizen of the city.
In the interview the 49-year-old recently spoke about work trousers, the US market and the company's influence on the location.
