So, bring a water bottle with you when you go for a walk?
In the future, when Bello lifts his leg, his owner should immediately reach for the bottle. In an Italian city, a heap bag will soon no longer be enough. Livorno is cracking down on dog urine.
If you don't clean up dog urine, you risk drastic fines
There is great anger about dog droppings on streets, on house walls and in front of shops in many cities. In Livorno, the port city on the Tuscan coast around 20 kilometers from Pisa, the city administration is now pulling the ripcord.
As the city officially announces, a new rule for dog owners will apply from May 20th. Anyone traveling with their animal must also have a liquid with them to wash away urine on public areas. It is also forbidden to let dogs urinate directly at house entrances, shop windows or gates. According to the city, violations could result in hefty fines of up to 500 euros.

The background is complaints about smell and hygiene. This quickly becomes a problem, especially in the warm months. That's why the regulation is initially only planned for the hotter times and should apply until the end of October, as the Swiss newspaper Blick reports.

Spanish cities have long been cracking down on dog urine
However, such an approach is not entirely new in southern Europe. In Seville, Spain, for example, dog owners have been required to clean up their animals' urine immediately for years. In Almería, also in Andalusia, there are even penalties of up to 750 euros for violating the rules.
Livorno wants to get the smell under control – and is relying on a simple message. In the future, anyone who goes out with a dog should not only have bags with them, but also water.
