Just in time for Lukas Podolski's 41st birthday, Netflix is releasing a documentary about the soccer star on June 4th. “POLDI” accompanies the ex-national player on and off the pitch. There are initial indications of what exactly will be seen in the documentary.

Netflix documentary by Lukas Podolski starts on June 4th

Over a year ago, Netflix announced that it was working on a documentary about former national soccer player Lukas Podolski (40). The start date has now been set: “POLDI” can be seen on the streaming service from June 4, 2026, on the athlete’s 41st birthday.

At the same time, Netflix released the first images from the production. One apparently shows the footballer in the locker room of Japanese sumo wrestlers. Poldi himself wears the typical loincloth, the so-called Mawashi. Another photo shows him at a zebra crossing, with some neon signs in the background. Both recordings were probably made during Podolski's time at the Japanese club Vissel Kōbe, for which he played from 2017 to 2020.

His long connection to 1. FC Cologne is also taken up in the documentary. He played professionally for the club from 2003 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2012. One of the scenes shown apparently comes from his farewell game on October 10, 2024, when he was on the pitch again in the Cologne jersey. Another picture shows him on a carnival float – a reference to his close ties to the city.
